Clapham Leisure Centre hosts regular junior volleyball sessions on Sunday mornings, 09:00-10:30. Since Little Giants Volleyball Club made a base for itself at Clapham Leisure Centre with the support of GLL Better Clapham Leisure Centre and Lambeth Council, volleyball in the area has blossomed. Now, new and encouraging buds are appearing.
It was a busy morning on Sunday 20th May when fourteen junior-age players have turned up at Clapham Leisure Centre eager to improve their volleyball skills. At end of the session, the girls asked to form a girls team to play as Giants Juniors in a London League juniors competition next season.
Little Giants Volleyball Club secretary, Cisel Ormanci was over the moon at the response and delighted that participants included the young daughter of a former Essex Estonians player. The influence of somebody who has seen the game played to a good standard always makes it easier to introduce skills to others. This band of beginners should go far.
Cisel, London Association's competitions officer, wants to see more opportunities for juniors to play competitive volleyball and hopes courses like this one can lead to great things once the League season starts in the autumn. The Sunday drop-in session at Clapham is open to boys and girls, young men and young women, from the age of seven to twenty-one. Participants are split up by age and organised into different activities. The cost per session is £5.
